Huawei has been at the forefront of innovation in smartphone camera, with its rich in-house engineering capabilities, and industry partnerships. For instance, its partnership with Leica has resulted in the P Series getting phenomenally better, with each successive smartphone launch. With the new P30 Pro, Huawei elevates and redefines the smartphone photography experience with industry-leading breakthrough innovations, via a four-camera setup. The new set-up comes with an intriguing new sensor enabling vastly improved and phenomenal low-light photography.

Camera as Key Spec

Over the past few years, the smartphone has become a de-facto go-to device for consumers. From a form-factor perspective, the smartphones have been essentially resembling flat rectangular slabs, with nothing much to distinguish between devices. Except, for whats inside.

For consumers everywhere, the camera has been the key spec and differentiator dictating their device buying preferences. And, this where, Huawei is rapidly distinguishing itself from its competition. With the P30 Pro, Huawei offers best-in-class and brilliant camera capabilities.

The Four Camera Set-up in Huawei P30 Pro

The Huawei P30 Pro features a new Leica Quad Camera System. The four camera setup comprises of a 40-megapixel SuperSpectrum sensor, a 20-megapixel ultra-wide camera, an 8-megapixel telephoto camera (so-called “Periscope zoom”) setup that offers 5x optical zoom, a Huawei TOF (Time of Flight) depth-sensing camera. On the front, there is a 32-megapixel front camera that takes phenomenal selfies.

#1. The Huawei SuperSpectrum Sensor

The most outstanding feature of the Huawei P30 Pro is its 1/1.7-inch Huawei SuperSpectrum Sensor. The SuperSpectrum Sensor enables a fundamental shift in sensor technology. It looks at light in a fundamentally different way, as compared to other cameras.

How does the SuperSpectrum Sensor work?

While other camera sensors work with a traditional RGGB Bayer filter, the SuperSpectrum Sensor replaces the two green sub-pixels in RGGB with two yellow pixels, making the sensor sensitive to RYYB. As a result, the P30 Pro comes with an astoundingly high ISO rating of 409,600. Alongside, the Huawei AIS (Artificial Intelligence Image Stablization) and OIS (Optical Image Stablization) work wonders with the SuperSpectrum Sensor. The resultant photos are exceptional across a varying light conditions and scenarios. In extreme low light conditions, the Huawei P30 Pro comes up with images, characterized by vivid and enhanced detail, color and clarity.

#2. New Periscope Design

The SuperZoom Lens on Huawei P30 Pro supports high fidelity magnification of 5 times optical zoom, 10 times hybrid zoom and 50 times digital zoom. Huawei makes all of this possible via a new periscope design, that deploys a 90-degree prism lens in its telephoto sensor to maximize focal length while minimizing camera height, without disrupting device design.

#3. Huawei TOF Camera

Huawei P30 ProThe Huawei ToF Camera on the P30 Pro captures depth-of-field information to deliver accurate image segmentation. For instance, the Super Portrait feature captures even the smallest details, such as individual strands of hair. By combining depth information and proprietary algorithms, the P30 Pro is able to produce outstanding images with defocused backgrounds and highlights the subject of the image in any scenario.

#4. Dual-Video Mode

The Huawei P30 Pro comes with a dual-video feature that is somewhat akin to Nokia‘s Bothie feature. Unlike the Nokia’s use of front and rear camera for the bothie, the dual-video on P30 Pro comes from two rear cameras: its SuperSpectrum camera and the telephoto camera, shooting at the same time. The resultant side-by-side video comes with a zoomed-in view alongside a wide-angle perspective of the same scene, merged in a single file.

#5. Incredibly Fast Charge

The Huawei P30 Pro features a 4200mAh battery, and 40W HUAWEI SuperCharge that charges a device from zero to 70% in 30 minutes. The device supports 15W wireless charging, as well as wireless reverse charging,

In Conclusion

The Huawei P30 Series design comes with a nine-layer nano optical color finish, FHD+ Dewdrop Display, and an In-Screen Fingerprint sensor. In addition, the Huawei P30 Pro also features Huawei Acoustic Display Technology that enables it to deliver high-quality audio through a sound emitting display. And, the P30 remains cool despite heavy use, thanks to Huawei’s SuperCool technology that improves thermal performance.

Given its industry-leading features, the P30 Pro from Huawei will be a worthy competitor for brands such as Samsung, and Apple.
